Gretsch is a musical instrument company founded in 1883, offering beloved guitars and drums that boast an iconic, vintage sound. While researching an upcoming guitar purchase, it became clear that there was some room for improvement when it came to the way they marketed their product, as well as incorporating more features into the shopping experience.

Concept approach
The primary purpose of the Gretsch website today is to provide high level details about their musical instruments and point the user to retailers to purchase (see below). While researching a new electric guitar on their website, I was surprised to see such an underwhelming experience, especially when you looked at the price point of some of their products. In 2023, when purchasing a high ticket item, you expect to be sold on the features of the product while also be given tools at your disposal to easily compare, save and shop in a seamless experience.

Areas of focus
I refreshed the site's aesthetic to feel more modern and bold while staying true to the brand. I overhauled the top navigation, moving secondary links into a sub-nav to simplify the experience. I introduced on-site shopping cart, comparison tools, and favoriting to support real purchase decisions. I brought in more photography, video, and copy to sell the guitar, not just show it. I also explored an "artist spotlight" feature to reinforce the product's credibility through the pros who play it.

The conclusion
Although I am not working directly with Gretsch, it was still enjoyable to explore building a better site experience that supports online sales. Note that although there are still some exploration to be done, the work above took roughly 2-3 hours to put together.
